June 2008 Class USCG Academy, New London CT):

  • Lodging Information:
We will be lodging at the Holiday Inn, New London (Mystic). When reserving your room call 1-860-442-0631 and use the group code AUXYou MUST confirm you reservation by May 18, 2008.
  • For information about the CG Academy or services found there, please visit their website.
  • The 2008 Class Calendar.
  • For transportation, refer to your official orders.  If you've never traveled on US Government orders, we've prepared a lessons learned page.
  • Thumb Drives (USB Drives): Though not required, having your own thumb drive is a great idea.  The AUX-04 course requires you to develop content with complimentary images for both the PowerPoint and Web Development sections.  Having a thumb drive preloaded with you own images or pre-built content will make your job much easier.  If you don't have a thumb drive, then preload your images and content onto a CD.
  • Laptops: Having a Laptop is not a requirement of this course, but can be useful while traveling.  They can be used in additional to the classroom computer systems. Unfortunately, don't expect Wi-Fi access at the CG Academy, but the Holiday Inn is listed on their website as having high speed Internet access, so check with the Holiday Inn when you make reservations and again when you check-in with the desk clerk upon your arrival.
  • E-Mail: Accessing personal e-mail via the Coast Guard Standard Workstations is forbidden.  You can access your e-mail via your personal laptop or from the business center at the Holiday Inn.
  • Uniforms: The CG Academy is an active Coast Guard facility.  You'll find new cadets, as well as seasoned Coasties traveling from building to building.  Be mindful of your appearance and how to render a proper military salute.  Please refer to the AUXMAN chapter 10 for information on the proper wearing of the CG uniform.  Uniforms will be worn on Thursday, Friday, and Saturday (morning/afternoon).

Important Travel Message:
Travel arrangements should be made through a government contracted Travel agency.  Failure to use a government contracted travel agency will result in the traveler assuming all liability for costs due to changes and cancellation in orders.  Your DIRAUX can provide information on the government contracted travel agency for your region.  A recommended government contracted national travel agency is SATO (800 800-753-7286).  If you use SATO, you will need to provide SATO with the Travel Orders Number (TONO) on this document to book travel.

Here's additional information about using SATO
