June 2010 Class USCG Academy, New London, CT

- Lodging Information: Lodging will be at Munro Hall. Most rooms are two person rooms with a bath & twin beds which you will share with another student. Towels, sheets, soap, ironing board and an iron are provided. Bring your own shampoo, hair dryer and toiletries. Wi-Fi Internet is available in the top floor recreation room.
- Meals: All meals, except for one "night-out" will be in the Mess located in Chase Hall. You must sign-in and pay in cash for each meal. Meals are served cafeteria style and you must bus your own dishes when finished. You will be reimbursed $10.00 a day for food.
- Campus: The terrain of the USCGA campus contains numerous hills. You are encouraged to bring comfortable walking shoes to wear.
- Schedules: The 2010 Class Calendar and the Academy Class Schedule (currently being drafted).
- Transportation: For transportation, refer to your official orders. Air travel (in to /out of) will ONLY be from the Providence, RI International Airport. If you've never traveled on US Government orders, we've prepared a lessons learned page. Transportation from the airport to the Academy must be coordinated.
- Bring at least two BLANK CDs to download your final projects and additional class lessons.
- Thumb Drives (USB Drives)? ARE Forbidden!!!!! The USCG does not allow the use of Thumb Drives on their computers. For this reason you are required to bring your files on a CD - PLUS Bring 2 Blank CD's to Class. Bring images from your unit (photos taken within your unit showing unit activities) and content (text describing your units missions/activities) on a CD.
- Laptops: Having a Laptop is not a requirement of this course, but can be useful while traveling. They can be used in additional to the classroom computer systems. Wi-Fi access is only available in the recreation room in Munro Hall.
- E-Mail: Accessing personal e-mail via the Coast Guard Standard Workstations is STRICTLY FORBIDDEN. To access your email, you must bring your own wireless laptop computer.
- Uniforms: USCG Academy is an active Coast Guard facility. You'll find new as well as seasoned Coasties traveling from building to building. Be mindful of your appearance and how to render a proper military salute. Please refer to the AUXMAN chapter 10 for information on the proper wearing of the CG uniform [Tropical Blue with the Garrison cap] and have your unit provide a uniform check before attending the class. Uniforms will be worn on Thursday and Friday. Bring business casual clothing for the rest of the class days.
